WFD Launches New Website
26.01.2006
January, 23, 2006. We are pleased to announce the launch of the Westminster Foundation for Democracy’s new website.

The new site can be found at www.wfd.org.

As an integral part of WFD’s Communication Strategy, the new website is intended to increase awareness of, and interest in, the work of the Foundation and reflects the new programmatic approach it has adopted.

David French, Chief Executive of WFD, said “We hope our new look website will provide an informative and engaging insight into the work of the Foundation, the people at the centre of its work and its vision for the future.  I would like to express my gratitude to all those that contributed to its development.”

Highlights include
- Country Strategies: find out the latest information on WFD’s country programme strategies and funding priorities.
- Case Study Showcase: read case studies of our work with partners in Africa, Europe and MENA, from supporting women’s political empowerment in Uganda to engaging young people with local government in Serbia-Montenegro.
- UK Political Party Links: find links to relevant organizations in our professional field, and in particular, the UK political parties which play a central role in WFD’s work.
- Online Application Form: apply to the foundation using our online application form or download an application pack.

This is just the beginning… we aim to increase the variety of information on our site to include publications and updates on the Foundation’s work and that of its partners. In the future we hope to include an e-newsletter which you can register online to receive.

We encourage you to explore our new website and read about the work of the Foundation.  We are keen to make it as interesting, informative and user friendly as possible and welcome any feedback or suggestions that you may have (Please e-mail Carla@wfd.org).

Notes:
1. The Westminster Foundation for Democracy works to achieve sustainable political change in emerging democracies.  Working with and through partner organisations, it seeks to strengthen the institutions of democracy, principally political parties, parliaments and the range of interests which make up civil society – NGOs, trade unions, free media etc.  WFD works mainly in Eastern Europe, sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East and North Africa.
2. WFD is an independent political foundation, sponsored by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, with its own Board of Governors.  The Board has 14 members, is constituted on a cross-party basis and is appointed by the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs.  There are six independent governors appointed to reflect the range of WFD’s interests, while eight governors are nominated by the Westminster political parties – three Labour, three Conservative, one Liberal Democrat and one representative of the smaller parties.  The Chairman is appointed by the Board.
3. WFD’s main source of income is a grant-in-aid from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, currently 4.1 million per annum; and it raises additional funding to support its programmes.  It was established in 1992. It is a company limited by guarantee and a non-departmental public body.
