The World Bank Group is inviting academics, entrepreneurs, innovators, businesses, universities and nonprofits to apply for its Big Data Innovation Challenge with an aim to identify and recognize innovative big data solutions that leverage new sources of data such as government-released open data, satellite imagery, mobile network data, anonymized private sector data, social media data and surveys among others.

Who can participate?

This Innovation Challenge is open to individuals, students and entrepreneurs as well as start-ups, university labs, private companies, nonprofits and public sector agencies legally established in member countries of the World Bank Group (including Ukraine   see: http://www.worldbank.org/countries).

Awards

Challenge Winners will be selected and awarded for the following categories:

• Food Challenge: Food Security or Nutrition – Best big data solution: 10,000 USD
• Landscapes Challenge: Forestry or Watersheds – Best big data solution: 10,000 USD
• Honorable mentions: (At least 3 honorable mentions for most innovative big data solution and other recognition awards to be announced in the near future)

Interested applicants must apply online via website. 

Applications accepted until November 9th, 2016, 5:00pm, EDT.

Applications will be reviewed by a technical committee made up of World Bank Group staff and external advisory council members. The applicant pool will be narrowed down to the winning solutions in each challenge and will be announced on December 14th, 2016.
