We are inviting you to apply for the workshop “Journalism in Crisis and Conflict - an international exchange” for journalists from Germany and Ukraine. The workshop takes place in Sloviansk, Ukraine, between 4th and 7th of December, 2019.

In many countries conflict and crisis endanger independent, accurate and objective journalism. Sometimes journalism even sharpens conflicts. It´s difficult to recognize propaganda, hate-speech and different interests of conflict-parties. Besides, the personal and digital security of journalists often is threatened and information sources are unprotected.

These problems will be the main focus of the journalism workshop organized by WECHANGE and Insha Osvita. 14 German and Ukrainian journalists will be invited to exchange their experience and discuss these issues with experts. Participants will meet with local journalists, community activists and digital security professionals. They will get acquainted with the working conditions in the front line area and learn more about the techniques of conflict-sensitive journalism. Attendees will also gain an understanding of digital security.

Further information:
Expenses including travel costs, accommodation (rooms mostly shared by 2 persons) and most meals will be covered by WECHANGE. Participants should expect expenses of max. 20 € for personal needs. There is a possibility to extend stay in Sloviansk after the workshop in case of professional needs, but all the costs for the extra day(s) should be covered by participant(s).

Requirement for participation:

• At least 2 years of experience as a journalist in print-, online-, radio- or TV-outlets or as a blogger,
• Good knowledge of English (working language of all training modules and discussions),
• Materials related to the topic of the Donbas or other conflict zones in the Eastern Europe,
• Interest in the digital security topic and basic knowledge in the field, **Valid travel documents.
