Summary of Program: The Bibliomist program provides Internet facilities to public libraries across Ukraine and accompanying training and assistance with advocacy for enhanced library support and services. Bibliomist is a partnership between IREX, USAID, and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Ukraine supported by a $25 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Bibliomist works with the Ukrainian Library Association (ULA), national and local authorities and libraries throughout Ukraine.

Summary of Position:

IREX seeks a qualified professional to fill the position of Program Assistant for the Bibliomist Program. The position will be based in Kyiv, Ukraine with some travel throughout the country. This position is intended for a citizen of Ukraine. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Description of Responsibilities:

  • Provide a full range of program support to the Capacity Development Team (CDT) staff;
  • Translate program-related documents (English, Ukrainian, and Russian);
  • Serve as an interpreter for the Bibliomist program staff on as-needed basis;
  • Handle logistics for CDT staff;
  • Prepare summaries of meetings;
  • Maintain a database of CDT contacts;
  • Maintain CDT filing systems;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years of experience working for an international NGO, in private sector or government;
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills;
  • University degree in linguistics or related field;
  • Familiarity with political, economic, and social issues in Ukraine;
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office applications;
  • Strong command of spoken/written English, Ukrainian and Russian.

Successor Function:

Librarians create subject guides and other publications at their own initiative, translate and disseminate materials, and create and maintain online resources.
